Early Years Funding Entitlement (EYFE)


Children become eligible for the Early Years Funding Entitlement (EYFE) the term after their 3rd birthday. Funding is available for up to six terms until the child reaches statutory school age, which is the term after their 5th birthday.

EYFE provides educational places for children all year around or term time only. Children who are eligible for the ‘2 year offer’ will receive a letter from the council and will become eligible the term after their 2nd birthday.


30 Hours Funding for 3 and 4 Year Olds

Some children are eligible for an additional 11 or 15 hours funding. To meet the criteria both parents or the lone parent must be working. The criteria is below:

  • A weekly minimum equivalent to 16 hours at national minimum wage or national living wage (equivalent of £125 per week got over 25’s)
  • Less than £100,000 per year.
  • If neither parent works or one parent does not work then the child will not normally be eligible for the extended entitlement.
